Escaped prisoner from Stony Mountain Institution recaptured

Stony Mountain Institution in Manitoba.

UPDATE: Escaped prisoner Ringo Carpenter from Stony Mountain Institution was recaptured.

Carpenter, 28, was discovered missing from the minimum security unit at the federal penitentiary Wednesday morning.

The Winnipeg police apprehended Carpenter around 1 p.m. that afternoon.

Carpenter is currently serving 8 years in prison for manslaughter in connection with the death of 21-year-old Langford Ogemah in 2012.

He began his sentence in December 2014.

Corrections Canada is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
