Man convicted of manslaughter escapes from prison in Manitoba

UPDATE: Escaped prisoner Ringo Carpenter caught.

The Winnipeg police apprehended Carpenter around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

EARLIER: According to Correctional Service Canada, during the 7:30 a.m. count on August 21, in the minimum security unit at Stony Mountain Institution, staff members discovered that offender Ringo (Dylan) Carpenter was not accounted for.

The RCMP and Winnipeg Police were immediately contacted. A warrant for his arrest was issued.

Carpenter is currently serving 8 years in prison for manslaughter in connection with the death of 21-year-old Langford Ogemah in 2012.

He began his sentence in December 2014.

Corrections Canada is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
