Bear spray fight at Winnipeg home ends with shot fired and arrests

Winnipeg police say bear spray and a firearm were used during a fight in the city’s North End.

On Monday police responded to a report of several people fighting and shots fired in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue.

The tactical support unit located evidence of shots being fired and A K-9 unit was used to track the suspects.

Damon Shabaquay, 21-years-old, was located behind a residence and taken into custody.

Two more people, a 45-year-old male and a 16-year-old female were located inside a garage and arrested. There police found a sawed-off bolt action rifle.

A fourth person, Brandon Woodhouse was taken into custody at the home on Magnus Ave where the incident began.

Police learned that Shabaquay had attended the residence and sprayed Woodhouse with bear spray.

Woodhouse then retrieved a can of bear spray from within the residence and sprayed Shabaquay.

The two continued to exchange blasts of bear spray until a CO2 firearm was produced by Shabaquay and multiple rounds were fired at Woodhouse, striking him in the lower body.

Shortly afterwards, a third male went to the home and fired shots at Woodhouse which shattered a nearby vehicle’s window.
