Alberta RCMP officer charged with sexual assault following ASIRT investigation

A Leduc RCMP officer has been charged with sexual assault following an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).

It is alleged that that during the early morning hours on July 6, 2017, Const. Kelly Brown, 37, assaulted a woman in Leduc.

On July 24, 2017, ASIRT was directed to investigate. The evidence gathered during the investigation provided reasonable grounds to believe that an offence had been committed and the matter was turned over to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS).

Const. Brown was charged with one count of sexual assault on Sept, 27, 2019.

According to Alberta RCMP, Const. Brown has been suspended with pay since July, 2017.

He has been with the RCMP for 13 years.

Brown is scheduled to appear in Leduc Provincial Court on Oct. 17.
