Man charged with second degree murder after house explosion in Brandon

An explosion occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Queen’s Ave east in Brandon.

A man has been charged with second degree murder after an explosion at a house in Brandon, Manitoba, took the life of a woman.

On Tuesday, at 7:50 pm., an explosion occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Queen’s Ave east.

When police arrived at the residence they found a 63-year-old woman deceased.

A 63-year-old man sustained injuries and was transported to the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg by STARS air ambulance.

Authorities said a strong smell of gas was present after the explosion.

An investigation by the Brandon Police Service Major Crimes Section and the Office of the Fire Commission determined that the death of the woman was not accidental.

An explosion occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Queen’s Ave east in Brandon.

On Friday, Brandon police arrested the 63-year-old suspect at Winnipeg’s Health Science Centre. He was detained at the Brandon Correctional Centre.

He was to appear in court on Saturday, Oct. 26 on a charge of second degree murder.

More information regarding the incident is expected to be released by Brandon police, Monday morning.
