Winnipeg police are investigating after a child was assaulted with a weapon at a home in the North End.

Wednesday, at approximately 2:35 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 300 block of Pritchard Avenue for a report a child was seriously assaulted.

Upon arrival, a 3-year-old boy was found suffering from significant upper body injuries.

The boy was transported to hospital in critical condition where he remains at this time.

Police don’t believe the attack was random and may have been done by someone known to the family, but no one was in custody.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

The assault on the 3-year-old came just days after an infant was injured during a shotgun attack in the 400 block of Flora Avenue.
