Winnipeg police identify victim of fatal shooting at nightclub

Winnipeg police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting at an Exchange District nightclub over the weekend.

On Saturday at 1:30 am, police responded to a shooting at Citizen nightclub on Princess Street and Bannatyne Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located two men who had been shot.

One of the victim’s sustained a gunshot wound to the lower body and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The second victim at the scene was located deceased.

He has been identified as Jamshaid Wahabi, 23.

His death is the city’s 38th homicide of the year.

Police say the shooting began inside the nightclub but spilled into the streets.

The homicide unit continues to investigate.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have taken cell phone video at the nightclub during the evening or has any relevant information to contact the Homicide Unit at (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
