Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a woman with second-degree murder and arson after the death of a man last month.

On October 31, at 10:25 p.m., emergency services personnel were dispatched to a residence at 506 Pritchard Avenue. A man was located inside and transported to hospital in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit and Homicide Unit continued with the investigation.

The deceased man was identified as Douglas Wood, 41, of Winnipeg.

Yesterday, police attended to the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue and placed a female suspect under arrest.

It is believed that her and Wood, who were acquaintances, had been socializing at the residence when a confrontation occurred. The woman later started a fire and fled, leaving him unable to escape.

Jenna Sereena Kakegamick, 23, of Winnipeg, has been charged with second-degree murder and arson with disregard for human life.

She was detained in custody.

This is Winnipeg’s 42nd homicide of 2019, setting a new record for the most homicides in a single year.
