Winnipeg police charge man with second degree murder after shooting at Windsor hotel

Winnipeg police have charged a suspect after a triple shooting outside the Windsor hotel that left one man dead.

On January 12, at approximately 2:53 a.m., police received a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Garry Street.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located three injured men.

All three were taken to hospital in critical condition. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Yassin Abdu Ahmed, 20.

As a result of an investigation, members of the Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in relation to the shooting incident.

On Tuesday, police located and arrested Alrick Denon Banton, 28, of Winnipeg.

At the time of his arrest, Banton was in possession of a firearm magazine containing several rounds of ammunition.

He has been charged with second-degree murder, attempt to commit murder, discharge restricted firearm with intent X2 and unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.

Banton has been detained in custody.
