IIU investigating officer involved shooting

A 27-year-old man was shot and killed by Winnipeg police during a knife attack on two people at a home in Charleswood.

According to a media release, on Tuesday at approximately 4:45 a.m., police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting Family Trouble at a residence located in the 100 block of Kowalsky Crescent.

Police say responding officers located a 27-year-old male resident of the home who was actively assaulting two other adult residents with an edged weapon.

The officers engaged the male, resulting in an officer discharging their firearm and striking the man. He was transported to the Health Sciences Centre in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The two victims were also taken to hospital, one in unstable condition and one in stable condition.

The IIU was notified about the officer involved shooting and has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
