A 27-year-old man from Lethbridge Alberta, with possible COVID-19 exposure, has been charged with assaulting a peace officer.

On Thursday night, Lethbridge police were called to a report of a domestic assault at a northside home. Upon investigation, officers discovered a man at the residence was in breach of the conditions of a release order.

Police say the man was taken into custody and during his arrest coughed directly into an officer’s face and told him he hoped he’d get infected.

The man admitted he had been exposed to a person who had been quarantined.

He is charged with assaulting a peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The man’s name has not been released.

He is currently in custody.
