Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a 45-year-old man in connection with a domestic homicide on Friday.

According to a media release, at around 11:40 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a multi-family residential building in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue for a report of a injured female.

Upon arrival, an injured woman was found inside one of the suites and taken to hospital in critical condition where she was pronounced deceased. A male suspect was arrested.

The victim was identified as Marie Morin, 46-years-old, of Winnipeg.

The Homicide Unit continued with the investigation.

Police believe Morin had been socializing with the suspect at his residence when she was assaulted. Morin suffered a significant laceration, and police say the homicide is considered domestic in nature.

Brandon Carl Starnyski, of Winnipeg, has been charged with second-degree murder and fail to comply with a probation order.

He was detained in custody.
