Winnipeg man dies after being attacked by group near Polo Park

Winnipeg police are investigating after a man died from a group attack in a parking lot near Polo Park shopping centre on Sunday.

Police responded to the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue at 1:18 a.m., for a report of an assault. A male had been assaulted by a group of individuals who had since fled the area.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Anthony Evaristo Gonzales, 30, of Winnipeg.

This is the city’s 28th homicide of 2020.
