Winnipeg police looking for witnesses after woman assaulted on Higgins Avenue

Winnipeg police say a woman is in critical condition after being seriously assaulted in the South Point Douglas area early Thursday.

According to a media release, at approximately 12:40 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Higgins Avenue. Responding officers found a woman in the green space located at the Northeast corner of Main Street and Higgins Avenue, suffering from severe injuries as a result of an assault.

The victim was transported to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate.

Police are looking to speak with people who were in the area of Main Street and Higgins Avenue during late Wednesday night or very early Thursday morning.
