Woman reported missing in July found dead near Portage la Prairie

Police are investigating the death of a 36-year-old woman reported missing in July as a homicide.

According to a media release, on September 3, at approximately 11:30 pm, the Manitoba First Nation Police Service received information about possible human remains found near Cottonwood Drive in the rural municipality of Portage la Prairie.

The Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services was notified and attended.

The remains have been identified as 36-year-old, Tamara (Norman) Benoit.

Police say her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Tamara was reported missing to Winnipeg police on July 10.

She last had contact with her family around the end of May and was believed to be in Long Plain First Nation on May 23.

Investigators are hoping that someone has information on Tamara and her activities since she was last heard from in May.

The Manitoba First Nation Police Service, RCMP, Winnipeg police and the chief medical examiner’s office continue to investigate.
