Winnipeg police proceeded with an abundance of caution as they investigated a suspicious item in the city’s North End on Sunday morning.

Police told the Northern Plains Freelancer that they were alerted to a “suspicious item” in the area of Dufferin Avenue and Robinson Street shortly after 5:00 a.m.. Officers closed Dufferin Avenue between King Street and Aikins Street, as well as Robinson Street between Dufferin Avenue and Jarvis Street.

The police bomb unit also responded to the scene. Bomb technicians deployed the bomb-disposal robot to investigate items inside what appeared to be a backpack. At around 10:30 a.m., the area was declared safe and opened back up.
