Winnipeg police charge suspect in Ellice Avenue homicide

Winnipeg police have charged a man with second-degree murder after a homicide on Ellice Avenue last week.

On October 21, at approximately 4:45 a.m., police responded to a report of an injured male in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man.

The deceased victim has been identified as Dennis Tougas Beardy, 20, of Winnipeg.

On October 25, general patrol officers arrested a suspect.

Sidney Sheldon Rene Racette, 35, faces charges of second-degree murder, assaulting a police officer, disarming a police officer and resisting arrest.

He was detained in custody.

Beardy’s death was Winnipeg’s 35th homicide of the year.
