Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect in a homicide after a man was assaulted at a Burrows Avenue home on Wednesday and died in hospital two days later.

According to a release, on December 30, at approximately 3:30 a.m., police responded to a residence located in the 1600 block of Burrows Avenue for a report of a man that had been seriously assaulted. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition.

On January 1, the man succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased victim has been identified as Leroy Jamie Daniel Flett, 31.

Investigators have identified a suspect in Flett’s murder.

An arrest warrant for manslaughter has been issued for Evan Jaye Littlejohn, 29.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact police and to not approach him.

This is the 43rd murder reported by Winnipeg police in 2020, but the 44th homicide to happen within the city. Earlier in the year, Gerhard Reimer-Wiebe, 27, from Steinbach, was killed in Winnipeg’s North End. However, his remains were found in Portage la Prairie. The RCMP investigated his death and charged four people with first-degree murder for the killing of Reimer-Wiebe.

In 2019, Winnipeg also had 44 homicides, doubling 2018’s murder rate of 22.
