Update: During the afternoon of March 17, members of the Winnipeg police homicide unit arrested Alvin Joseph Glen Nelson, 34, in the South end of the city for the murder of Russel Gibeault, 30.
Police say Nelson and Gibeault were known to each other when they became involved in a physical altercation at a residence on March 12.
Nelson has been charged with second-degree murder.
He has been detained in custody.

Earlier: Winnipeg police are asking for the public’s help in locating a murder suspect after a man was assaulted at a home in the West End and died in hospital.
On March 12, at around 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a male who had been seriously assaulted in the 400 block of Agnes Street. When they arrived, officers found an unresponsive man inside the residence.
The man was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Russel Gibeault, 30, of Winnipeg.
Members of the homicide unit continued with the investigation.
A Canada-wide arrest warrant for second-degree murder has been issued Alvin Joseph Glen Nelson, 34, of Winnipeg.
Nelson is described as an Indigenous, 5’11” in height, with a medium build. He has brown eyes and black medium length hair, with a mustache and goatee. Nelson also has a tattoo of a skull with horns on his left forearm.
The public is cautioned not to approach him.
