Inmate death reported at Stony Mountain Institution

Stony Mountain Institution in Manitoba.

An inmate who was serving a sentence at a Manitoba prison has died.

The Correctional Service Canada (CSC) reports, on August 28, David Midouin, an inmate from Stony Mountain Institution died while in custody.

At the time of his death, Midouin had been serving a sentence of 4 years, 8 months and 28 days for uttering threats to cause death/harm; discharge a restricted/prohibited firearm with intent; possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; possession for the purpose of selling; intimidation of a justice system participant/journalist; and possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order since September 8, 2020.

Midouin’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC will review the circumstances. The police and coroner have been notified.

Stony Mountain Institution is a federal facility located about 25 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
